This residential renovation project breathes new vitality into an old structure with a modern minimalist sensibility, while deeply respecting the traces of a space that has weathered many years. We boldly stripped away the inefficient circulations and dark voids of the past structure, pulling a wide-open sense of freedom and abundant natural light deep into the interior through structural reinforcement. Atop the cozy sense of proportion unique to old houses—something brand-new buildings cannot replicate—we layered the aesthetics of smooth lines and ordered surfaces.
